2017 Cape Dorset Annual Print Collection

October 8 - November 26, 2017

Opening Reception Saturday, October 21, 10:00 am

Sale of prints via lottery begins at 10:30 am

Dorset Print Sale 2017The 2017 Cape Dorset Print Collection consists of 30 images by 15 artists. There are many new artists in this year’s collection. The artists and printmakers in the picturesque hamlet of Cape Dorset seldom receive formal training in studio arts, unlike southern artists. Their practices are largely informed by mentorship and collaboration within the community. The resulting prints simultaneously embody the traditional and the contemporary, creating a captivating visual record of both the history and present day culture of Inuit life.

Due to the high demand for these limited edition prints, the sale will be conducted by lottery. Customers need not be present to purchase prints. Names will be drawn beginning at 10:30 am. Customers can request a catalog and call in their orders to 231-995-1586 or email ttarnow@nmc.edu  15% Exchange rate will be taken off the Canadian price of the prints. All sales are final. Prints can be viewed at www.dorsetfinearts.com.

Following the sale of prints visit the Dennos Museum Center’s current exhibitions; Myths, Legends, and Stories: Sculptures by Abraham Angik Ruben and Into the Arctic, powerful paintings of the Canadian Arctic by Cory Trépanier.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to purchase new work for the Dennos Museum Center’s Inuit Collection. The Museum reserves the right to select up to three works from the collection.
