Susanne Stephenson – Transfigurement

A retrospective exhibition of the work of Susanne Stephenson, presented in cooperation with Pewabic Pottery in Detroit and in collaboration with the Marshall Fredericks Sculpture Museum.
Susanne Stephenson has been an important contributor to the field of ceramics for six decades. She received her BFA from Carnegie Mellon University and her MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. The recipient of many awards, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, she was granted an Honorary Doctor of Arts Degree from Grand Valley State University in 1992. She has exhibited around the globe since her first solo exhibition at Tamayo Gallery in Fukuoka, Japan in 1963. As a Professor of Ceramics and Art Appreciation for nearly thirty years, she mentored and influenced the careers of countless artists. Stephenson’s work is found in numerous museum collections worldwide.
