The Other Traverse City: Opioids and Our Community
November 8, 2018 - January 20, 2019
Local photographer Alan Newton has exhibited two series of photographic work including the area’s population experiencing homelessness and veterans with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. His latest project will focus his lens on the opioid crisis affecting the Traverse City region and beyond. The exhibition includes portraits of people who are addicts in recovery, emergency responders, judges, families who have lost children, and others connected to the opioid crisis, along with their stories based on interviews conducted by Newton.
The opening reception, 6:30-8:00pm on November 8, welcomes everyone involved in the project along with the public to view and discuss the photographs, stories, and overarching issues facing our community. In addition, service organizations will be present to offer resources and action steps that can positively affect the problems inherent in opioid abuse. Supported by a grant from Art Bridges. Sponsored by Morsels of Traverse City. The exhibition is installed in the Milliken Auditorium wall cases, and is included with general admission.
