Julian Stanczak, Conferring Blue, screenprint, 1979
At a time in history when the gestural and emotional elements of Abstract Expressionism were defining the parameters of the modern aesthetic, Julian Stanczak was paving the way for a new interpretation of form and content. Within a decade of his emigration to America in 1950, Stanczak's work evolved from representation to pure abstraction. Deconstructing the empirical world, stripping it bare of its descriptive visual language and reconstructing it in its most elemental geometric form launched a new direction for Stanczak and a new movement in American modernism.
